Picasso designed the poster to the Spanish-American exhibition in the gallery Henri Tronche. Motives were also Picasso's friendship to Wifredo Lam and the interest for Central America and the Caribbean (see Morris/Grunenberg, 2010, p.45 f.). (exposition review in "Arts. Beaux Arts, Litterature, Spectacles", num.337, Paris 14.12.1951, p.5, cit. at Bravo, 1996, p. 155 note 15)
Participating artists were Antoni Clavé, Óscar Dominguez, Joaquin Peinado, José Palmeiro, José Fin, Hernando Vines, then Wifredo Lam, David Alfari Siqueiros, Americo Taborda among others...

There are two other variants of the motive Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, but not designed in the poster, see Rodrigo 1971, p.52.
